So you're postponing your wedding? Now what?
So, you're postponing your wedding. Something you never thought would happen during all your wedding planning. Whether you've decided to postpone yourselves or you're being forced to postpone, remember, you do have options. It's also important to remember that your friends, family, and vendor team (that's right team!) are here to help guide you through this process. While it's not ideal, it doesn't have to be stressful.
If you're looking for help knowing just where to start, don't worry, we're here to help navigate the process. Here are a few action steps you can take if you're postponing your wedding:
If you decide to postpone:
1. Hire a planner
If you don't have a planner already, consider hiring one, or at least get someone to help with some consulting. Planning a wedding is challenging work to begin with, and postponing can easily seem like you must start planning all over again.
2. Review Your Vendor’s Contracts
Speak with your vendors as soon as possible. Eva Clark, of Eva Clark Events (https://www.evaclarkevents.com/about-destination-wedding-planning) recommends discussing postponing first, "Vendors are far more likely to work with you on a postponement than a cancelation. Start the conversation softly and avoid obtuse language.
3. Decide and a New Date
Be sure to check with your immediate family and VIP guests and your Vendors. Start with vendors that are the most time-sensitive and expensive and work your way down the list. Your Videographer, for instance, may only be able to work one wedding per day, while a catering team may be capable of serving multiple weddings should they be double-booked with rescheduled dates.
4. Expect Extra Fees
It's possible that you will need to pay rescheduling fees or lose a part of your investment. And as the Pandemic continues to affect all aspects of the economy, it's likely that venues and vendors are likely to be firmer regarding their contract policies.
5. Move Quickly
There are millions of weddings in the U.S. each year. Not to sound alarmist, but the truth is there are many couples that are in a similar position this year. These other couples are your competition, so time is of the essence in deciding.
If you're stuck getting started, use the jumpstart guide below to help reschedule and keep your vendor team together.
